“Jack Kerouac’s America” by Douglas Brinkley

After I put up the last video on Jack Kerouac, I became really fascinated by the man.  The total intensity of his purpose, mission and single minded purpose and how it drove him (somewhat of a path of self destruction) and the cost he paid over the years became something that was compelling in a strange sort of a way and in spite of his personal drawbacks and shortcomings that man became a true icon of his time and a legend.

So, I went on a quest to find out more and came across this video lecture by Douglas Brinkley (don’t know if he’s any relation to David Brinkley or not) but part of my fascination with Kerouac was the time that he lived in and wrote about. America has changed so much since then (not necessarily for the better)  so this video lecture by Mr. Brinkley not only brings forth information about Kerouac but about America with a unique backwards perspective that I think is useful and thought provoking.
